Drama Bangkok Raja Petra-PDRM berterusan

Sunday, April 24, 2011

Tulisan Raja Petra tengah hari tadi menyebut polis mahu mengambil kenyataannya ekoran aduan berhubung laporan Utusan Malaysia susulan temu bual dengan TV3 dua minggu lalu.

Police no longer hide behind pillars for traffic ops

Saturday, April 23, 2011

Police no longer hide behind pillars in carrying out traffic operations, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar.

"We no longer hide behind pillars, but issue summonses immediately, and those issued with summonses should not forget to settle their fines," he said during a dialogue session with 1,000 Indian youths at the programme, 'A Day With the Police' at the Selangor Police Headquarters, here today.

Khalid said this when responding to a statement by a dialogue participant that the frequent police presence on the road lately had resulted in drivers being more disciplined on the road compared to the past when policemen hid at the end of the road and emerging from their hiding place to stop traffic offenders.

Khalid later told a media conference that the physical presence of the policemen during traffic operations had started not long ago.

"Don't be surprised if you are issued with a summons ... we shouldn't be hiding, we will come out in the open and enforce the law," he said.

On efforts by the police to curb gangsterism among the Indian community in Selangor as raised by several participants, he said besides prosecuting them in court, police also carried out preventive measures. -- Bernama

No confidence in new Deputy IGP Khalid Bakar

Thursday, April 14, 2011

FMT LETTER

From N Surendran, via e-mail

I’m appalled by appointment of Khalid Abu Bakar as Deputy Inspector-General of police. This paves the way for his eventual appointment as IGP. Some of the worst instances of abuse of power by police took place under Khalid when he was Chief Police Officer of Selangor. This includes the notorious police torture-murder of A Kugan in January 2009 and the fatal police shooting of 14-year-old Aminulrasyid Amzah. Police attempted to cover-up both cases.

Despite bearing ultimate responsibility, Khalid has never apologised or accepted any blame for these two murders. To make things worse, in the case of A Kugan, Khalid initially gave the ridiculous explanation that Kugan drank a glass of water and then collapsed and died. This despite the horrendous injuries on his tortured body.

In Aminulrasyid’s case, Khalid suggested that the 14-year-old boy was a criminal and that he had tried reverse the car into the policemen. This false allegation merely increased the sorrow and suffering of Aminulrasyid’s family.

Public confidence in the Royal Malaysian Police remains extremely low in the wake of incidents such as these, compounded by the unlawful and unjust use of police powers against the political opposition and civil society.

The police force and its leadership must be comprehensively reformed. Police recruitment and training methods must be reviewed. The IPCMC must be set up to curb abuse of police powers.

In this regard, the appointment of Khalid Abu Bakar is a retrograde step, does not inspire confidence and will not put the police force on the path to real reform. In making such key appointments, the government must unfailingly take into account public interest.

This they have once again failed to do.

The state assembly was in session when the arrests took place. The police said the protesters were arrested for failing to disperse after taking part in an illegal gathering.

The residents want the BN-led government to sort out their land titles issues as soon as possible.

Among those arrested included Hindraf’s national secretary P Ramesh, who claimed that he had suffered injuries while being arrested as a result of police assault.

He has been taken to the Ipoh general hospital for treatment.

Hindraf’s legal advisor P Uthayakumar said Ramesh was kicked in the stomach and stepped on his

“He was also kicked on his head and neck. As a result he can’t even stand up properly and started vomiting. He was taken by an ambulance from the Ipoh district police headquarters to the Ipoh General Hospital,” he told FMT.
